Lyon have completed the joker signing of Keito Nakamura from Reims after the window closed, the club said in a statement. The Japan international has agreed a contract until 2030 and becomes the first Japanese player in the club’s history.
The deal was announced on Tuesday, then formalised on Wednesday only hours after the market shut, allowing Lyon to add him to their UEFA Europa League list before the looming deadline.
Lyon will pay one million euros, with bonuses that could rise to 19 million euros. Reims will also receive 12.5% of any future profit on a resale.
Malick Fofana’s late move to Sunderland had delayed the confirmation of his replacement, but the wait is over.
Nakamura, 26, departs Reims three years after arriving. He made 97 appearances and scored 30 goals for the Champagne club, and held permission to leave this summer.
He is coming off a World Cup in which he played every match for Japan, scoring against the Netherlands.
