Matthieu Louis-Jean, Lyon’s technical director, was shown a red card after the 3-2 defeat at Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome for remarks aimed at referee Jérôme Brisard.

While Lyon head coach Paulo Fonseca kept his evident anger in check with a brisk press conference on Sunday night, other staff struggled to accept the late swing. According to L'Équipe, Louis-Jean was particularly affected.

At full time he was visibly agitated, echoing directors who felt decisions tipped the match Marseille’s way, the hosts ultimately turning it around after trailing until the 80th minute.

They pointed to a marginal VAR offside that ruled out a Corentin Tolisso goal early in the second half, and to an alleged foul by Emerson on Tyler Morton at the start of the move for Marseille’s third in the first minute of stoppage time.

Seconds after the whistle, Louis-Jean is said to have addressed Brisard with remarks that led to the dismissal. He should now be summoned by the LFP disciplinary commission to explain and risks a suspension yet to be defined.
