Bayer Leverkusen's rearguard has been handed a boost after they announced the signing of Facundo Medina this evening.

The 27-year-old Argentinian joins the Bundesliga club from Olympique Marseille and has signed a contract with Bayer until 2031.

Despite the fee being kept confidential by both clubs, sources at FussballTransfers.com believe Medina cost around €25million.

Of that sum, €23million is paid immediately as a base amount, with a further €2million to follow as possible bonuses.

An agreement between the clubs was subsequently recently reached and Leverkusen have announced the completion of the deal.

“With Facundo Medina, we have signed a very experienced professional," said B04 sporting director Simon Rolfes.

"He will immediately be a pillar of support for our team thanks to his class and strong mentality. He is a strong tackler: assertive and aggressive.

“Facundo's qualities add an important element to our squad. We are delighted to have him in our ranks,” Rolfes added.
