French goalkeeper Rémy Deschamps (28) has officially signed for Olympique Lyonnais, the Ligue 1 club has announced. The 28-year-old was a free agent following the expiry of the three-year contract he had signed with FC Nantes. Descamps notably played an instrumental role in Nantes’ run to secure the 2022 Coupe de France. The former Paris Saint-Germain was Alban Lafont’s understudy for Les Canaris and he is expected to retain the role of the No. 2 goalkeeper with Les Gones. Descamps has signed a three-year contract with Lyon.
Descamps’ signing as Lucas Perri’s understudy is another clear sign of Lyon’s intent to part ways with youth product Anthony Lopes. The Portugal international has been Les Gones‘ undisputed starter between the sticks in the last decade but he is being pushed toward the exit door. The 33-year-old is entering his final contract year with his formative club. For the first time since December 2013, Lopes was benched in a Ligue 1 game last Sunday when Lyon suffered a 3-0 away loss to Rennes.
