Leeds United visit Brighton on Saturday, and a win would make history. According to Leedsunited.news, Daniel Farke’s side drew 1-1 with Brentford, while Brighton were close to a result at Xabi Alonso’s improved Chelsea. Pascal Struijk faces his former club only weeks after joining The Seagulls.
Since Brighton moved to The Amex in 2011, the clubs have met nine times there, with two early draws followed by seven straight Leeds defeats without scoring.
Gabi Gudmundsson has trained this week. A start at The Amex looks unrealistic after his lay-off, though he may travel. Farke says Joe Rodon’s hamstring injury puts the Wales defender out for 8-10 weeks, until November.
Ilia Gruev could be involved after long-term injury, although even if he is fit his chance of starting appears minimal. New signings Melvin Bard and Jean-Matteo Bahoya are available.
Farke used 3-4-2-1 against Brentford, with Brenden Aaronson and the linked-away Noah Okafor behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin. If he repeats it, Aaronson is likely to drop out after being taken off at half-time. Harry Wilson could return to support Okafor and Calvert-Lewin.
Rodon’s absence forces a change. Options are Nico Elvedi as a straight swap, or Bard on the left with James Justin to the right of the back three. Elvedi is stronger in the middle.
We predict two changes, Bard could start and Wilson in for Aaronson. Predicted XI v Brighton: James Trafford, James Justin, Jaka Bijol, Tarik Muharemovic, Jayden Bogle, Ethan Ampadu, Anton Stach, Melvin Bard, Harry Wilson, Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
