According to L'Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain want the return fixture with Stade Rennais to be staged at the Parc des Princes, after the opening-day match was reversed to Rennes.

The Ligue 1 game will now be played at 20:45 on Sunday at Roazhon Park, and the short notice for fans, along with the venue of the return, has become contentious.

PSG maintain they followed protocol. With Jean-Bouin and Charléty pitches not ready and the Stade de France configured for a concert, the club turned to the LFP, which then asked Rennes to accept the switch. Paris stress Rennes had the option to refuse, and say they would not have opposed a postponement of matchday one.

PSG argue this shared responsibility bears on the return venue. LFP rules state the return should be played at the originally scheduled ground unless there are “exceptional circumstances”, a clause added from 2024-2025. They consider the heatwave to be such a condition and, for competitive balance, see no reason for Rennes to have an extra home game.

Rennes will stress that a storm or flooding can be considered exceptional, but a summer heatwave, regularly forecast by meteorologists, instead points to a lack of vigilance by PSG.

For now, the club are focused on staging Sunday’s match, after which they will review the return with the League. The LFP competitions commission will decide.
