Sabrina Wittmann dismissed by Ingolstadt after pioneering spell in 3. Liga | OneFootball

Pioneering coach Sabrina Wittmann, 35, has been removed by Ingolstadt with immediate effect.

The club said in a statement that she was informed of the decision in a one-to-one meeting. Ingolstadt sit 13th of 20 in 3. Liga after a flat start to the season.

Ingolstadt have been in 3. Liga since 2022 and have not been in position to return to the second tier over the past four years. Under Wittmann they finished 10th in 2024-2025, then 12th last season.

She took the job on an interim basis in May 2024 before being confirmed as head coach of the first team. That appointment was a landmark in German football, making her the first woman to lead a professional men’s side.

The decision followed an in-depth review of the team’s development this season and results to date in 3. Liga. A reorganisation was deemed necessary to provide fresh impetus for the challenges ahead, and it was described as a very difficult call on a personal level.

Wittmann obtained her UEFA Pro licence in January.
