Leeds United have confirmed Sebastiaan Bornauw has joined Bundesliga side Hamburg SV on a one-year loan, with a possible return next season.

Leeds Live understands Hamburg have an option to buy without an obligation, so he is, for now, due back at the end of the season.

The 27-year-old arrived from VfL Wolfsburg last summer for about £5m after Leeds returned to the Premier League. He made 17 appearances in all competitions, starting five league matches and coming on 12 times, many of those covering injury absences in defence.

He made his Premier League debut in December 2025 as a late substitute in the 3-1 win over Chelsea at Elland Road.

Hamburg finished 13th in the Bundesliga last season under Merlin Polzin and will begin this campaign away to Borussia Dortmund.
