Francis Abu (24) suffered an unfortunate horror injury during Ghana’s game against Japan on Friday. Ao Tanaka, unaware of the approaching Abu, made contact with the Toulouse FC player’s lower leg. Abu was stretchered off and went straight to hospital.

L’Équipe understands that he has suffered a double fracture (tibia/fibula). Tanuka immediately apologised for his role in the horror injury. There were discussions between the Toulouse and Ghana medical staff and it was decided that Abu would undergo surgery on the injury in Japan, due to the risk of him travelling with the injury untreated.

The publication also understands that the midfielder, who has made eight appearances for Le TéFéCé since making the move from Cercle Brugge in the summer, will now miss the rest of the current campaign. Not only that, he is also expected to miss next summer’s FIFA World Cup, for which Ghana have already secured qualification.
