A major international event is coming to Austria! The UEFA Super Cup will be held in Salzburg for the first time in 2026. The UEFA Executive Committee awarded the contract at its meeting on Thursday – in a welcome signal for Austrian football and a clear sign of the country's high attractiveness as a venue of international events.
On Wednesday, 12 August 2026, the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League of the 2025/26 season will meet in a high-profile showdown in Salzburg. This will be the first time since the EURO 2008 final that a UEFA final will be held in Austria. The venue will be our arena in Wals-Siezenheim, which has a total capacity of 30,071 spectators for European matches and has been the scene of so many extraordinary matches in continental competitions for FC Red Bull Salzburg in recent years.
Stephan Reiter, CEO of FC Red Bull Salzburg, is naturally pleased about the decision, and says:
We had been engaged in constructive and positive discussions with UEFA officials and the Austrian Football Association for several weeks, which ultimately led to this very positive decision. One of the main reasons for this was certainly that our club has been participating in UEFA competitions for many years and that our team has handled these matches in a highly professional manner, which has not gone unnoticed by UEFA officials. Such a major European sporting event is a significant highlight not only for us as a club, but also for our beautiful city and the entire region.

ÖFB Supervisory Board Chairman Josef Pröll is also delighted with the decision, saying:
It is a great honour and pleasure that the UEFA Super Cup 2026 will be held in Salzburg. Under the leadership of Stephan Reiter, FC Salzburg has hosted countless UEFA competition matches at the highest level in recent years and has proven itself to be the perfect location for this major international event. Together with the people of Salzburg, we are committed to being the perfect hosts and providing our international guests with an unforgettable festival of football.
Josef Pröll
The awarding of the 2026 UEFA Super Cup to Salzburg opens a new chapter for Austrian football. Shortly after his election, Josef Pröll emphasised his desire to put Austria back in the international spotlight, including as an attractive venue for top events.
"During my visit to UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin a few weeks ago, I clearly emphasised the ÖFB's interest and willingness to take on responsibility in this area. The UEFA Super Cup is a perfect start to this initiative, but it should only be the beginning," said Pröll.
