West Ham United's summer transfer window is finally up and running, and with their opening Championship fixture away to Burnley less than a week away, a shock face could be on their way to East London.

West Ham have finally got their summer transfer window up and running with the capture of former Brighton and Hove Albion defender Joel Veltman, with the Dutchman the first fresh face to arrive through the London Stadium doors since their relegation to the Championship.

Keiber Lamadrid's loan deal became permanent earlier this summer, as those two deals remain all the business they have conducted at this stage.

Mateus Fernandes joined Tottenham Hotspur for £85 million, Crysencio Summerville has switched to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for around £60 million, Freddie Potts has joined Belgian side Club Brugge for around £10 million, whilst Callum Marshall has completed a permanent move to Luton Town.

The exits of Callum Wilson, Lukasz Fabianski, and Adama Traore have also left gaps in the squad, as head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and recently-appointed director of player recruitment Nils Koppen prepare a surprise move for a former Premier League favourite.

According to Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth and Chris Reidy, West Ham are interested in signing former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy this summer as a free agent.

Nuno is considering adding another forward option to his ranks before the September 1st deadline alongside Taty Castellanos, Pablo Felipe, and Niclas Fullkrug, with the 39-year-old being considered.

Vardy recently made 29 Serie A appearances for Cremonese, scoring seven and assisting three, but was unable to keep the club in the top-flight, and following their relegation, left the club, where he remains a free agent.

League One Sheffield Wednesday were reportedly interested in a move for the former England international earlier on in the window, but no formal move ever materialised, and now, he could be on his way to East London.

Football League World's West Ham fan pundit, Ryan Horn, has shared their thoughts on the potential addition of Vardy, and whether he is a player they would like to see in Claret and Blue next season.

Ryan said: "Jamie Vardy in a West Ham kit just makes sense.

"He's got a lot of experience in multiple competitions. We know he can do it, even at the age he's at now. He works hard, he just likes to play football, and I think that's great to have around the dressing room with a lot of the younger players that we're bringing through the academy and stuff. But yeah, just him in a West Ham shirt makes sense.

"It's sort of like when we bought Callum Wilson in last year. It's sort of giving that vibe, like he might not play 90 minutes, but he might get us the important goals.

"I love Jamie Vardy. I mean, who hates Jamie Vardy? Everybody loves him. So yeah, one-hundred per cent.

"I mean, the only reservations I think fans are having, including myself, is his age. But if he gets us important goals and gets us back to the Premier League, who cares? Seeing Jamie Vardy in Claret and Blue, that would be amazing."

With interest in Vardy having recently emerged, West Ham and Nuno don't appear to be done just there.

Spurs winger Manor Solomon is close to joining the Hammers on a permanent deal, whilst Irish striker Troy Parrott remains a serious target this summer, with the club trying to agree a fee with Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar.

Now, with Vardy having been sounded out as a potential option, West Ham's plan to improve their final third is clear, as the Englishman would add a wealth of experience to their ranks.

Although he is 39, Vardy appears keen to write another chapter in his incredible story, with West Ham potentially his next destination.
