Wolves confirm signing of former Chelsea winger | OneFootball

Former Chelsea and Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore has joined Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers on a one-year deal, after departing Sunderland over the summer. 

The 31-year-old made just 12 appearances for the Black Cats after joining them in September 2025, starting nine times and scoring once, missing much of the latter part of the season with a knee injury.

Captain of the Burkina Faso national team, Traore is now onto his fifth club since departing Villa in 2024, where he made 62 appearances and scored ten goals during a four-year stint.

Relegated from the Premier League last year, Wolves, under the management of Portuguese coach Cesar Peixoto, sit 10th in the Championship after five games, as Traore becomes the West Midlands’ side’s 10th signing of the summer window. 

Traore joins former Newcastle right back Kieran Trippier and ex-Fulham striker Raul Jimenez at Molineux, one of five free transfers the club have made. 

“It is a position we wanted and he is a good player to improve the team,” Peixoto said. “He has the right characteristics – good one versus one, strong, left footed and fast to attack the space. 

“He needs time to get fit because he has been working alone, and he needs to know our idea of the game, but it is another option to help us fight to get to the Premier League.

“Like we saw on Sunday (in their 2-2 draw against Birmingham City), the Championship is very tough, so we need two players in each position to manage the games.”
