Youssouf Fofana’s proposed loan from AC Milan to Lyon has been cancelled.

According to L'Équipe, an agreement was reached late on Tuesday afternoon, but Lyon needed to reduce their wage bill to accommodate the midfielder.

The move was tied to Nicolas Tagliafico’s potential departure, with the Argentinian full-back in talks with Atletico Madrid.

By 20:00, Tagliafico had not left, and the 27-year-old could not be loaned before the deadline for incoming transfers in France.

Fofana, a France international with 25 caps and 3 goals, was already travelling to Lyon when the deal fell through.
