Sunderland loanee Luís Hemir Semedo was an unused substitute in Moreirense’s 3-1 defeat at FC Porto and did not join the pre-match warm-up.
According to A Bola, the decision was linked to behaviour before the trip to the Estádio do Dragão that the club deemed inappropriate, warranting a consequence but not removal from the squad.
Head coach Vasco Botelho said the move was about Semedo’s development, noting he has known him since he was seven and cares for him, and that the collective comes before the individual, sometimes requiring tough calls.
The 22-year-old had shown tentative progress this month, scoring against Nacional in the Primeira Liga after a stop-start spell. He joined Moreirense on loan in August and remains contracted to Sunderland until June 2028, following limited minutes last season with Juventus Next Gen.
Across 15 league appearances he has two goals and one assist in 717 minutes. His next chance could arrive when Moreirense face Arouca on Saturday, with injuries offering a possible route back to the starting line-up.
