According to Glorioso 1904, Marco Silva has been officially presented as José Mourinho’s successor at Benfica and has begun shaping his 2026/27 squad. His arrival offers renewed opportunities to players previously out of the picture.

One of those is Manu Silva, signed from Vitória de Guimarães at the start of 2025 for about 12 million euros. The midfielder’s bid to establish himself at the Luz was curtailed almost as soon as it began.

Georgiy Sudakov and Franjo Ivanovic are also back in consideration for next season. Both lost ground in the second half of the last campaign, particularly after Bruno Lage departed and José Mourinho took charge. Their involvement dwindled and they slipped into secondary roles.

A change of leadership and fresh ideas now give Sudakov and Ivanovic a chance to reset and compete for prominence in the squad. The pre-season will be decisive for all three as they attempt to convince the new head coach.

Marco Silva intends to assess every option closely before setting Benfica’s transfer priorities. Reinforcements are expected, but internal solutions could yet take centre stage.
