Aston Villa have announced the double signing of Matteo Ruggeri and Zion Suzuki for a combined transfer fee of £51.3m.
Ruggeri has arrived from Atletico Madrid in a £21.4m deal and the Italian left-back replaces Lucas Digne at Villa Park, following the latter’s move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Villa have also sealed a deal for Japanese goalkeeper Suzuki. The 23-year-old is regarded as one of Europe’s best young shot-stoppers and arrives from Parma for just under £30m. Unai Emery’s side have called Suzuki ‘one of the game’s brightest prospects in his position’.
Ruggeri and Suzuki become the club’s third and fourth signings of the summer. Villa have already landed Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi in a club-record deal, and have added Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes to their squad.
The transfers come amid a summer of overhaul for Villa. Morgan Rogers has left for Chelsea in a £117m deal, while Youri Tielemans and Lucas Digne have departed for Manchester United and PSG respectively.
Doubts also remain over Emi Martinez and Ollie Watkins, who are both attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal have lodged a €45m offer for Watkins, who is reportedly open to the move.
