Sparta Capital, the new owner of Girondins de Bordeaux, set out its first steps on Sunday, thanking Gérard Lopez and signalling a new chapter. Sparta Capital said in statements that it is poised to take 100% control of the club, led by CEO Franck Tuil.
Completion depends on the CNOSF confirming the club remain in National 2, renamed N1 after National became Ligue 3. After funding on Friday 31 July from Sparta, with Park Bench participating, there is hope that relegation to Régional 1, the sixth tier, will be avoided.
The statements also praised Lopez for his involvement and for leaving a healthier financial position and leaner cost base than in 2021 when Jogo Bonito and Lopez took charge. They highlighted his constant availability and focus on the club’s best interests.
Sparta Capital and Park Bench cast stability as the immediate priority, covering governance, vision and know-how, with progress to include open, constructive dialogue with the DNCG, whose process is ongoing. They stressed the club is more than a balance sheet.
Work alongside the DNCG is intended to demonstrate the financial solidity and sustainability the club needs. Reconstruction is expected to take time, yet they believe Bordeaux has the foundations to recover.
Supporters were placed at the centre of decision-making and thanks were extended to mayor Thomas Cazenave. The owners made only one promise, to approach the task with humility, transparency and determination, and to restore pride with the help of supporters, players, staff, partners and the region.
