Sunderland’s squad is valued at £379.73m after the summer window closed, according to TransferMarkt. The club pursued a measured approach yet worked to the final hours to complete business.
Last summer was transformational as Regis Le Bris’ promotion-winning squad was overhauled, with Granit Xhaka, Brian Brobbey and Robin Roefs signed. A new look side finished seventh to reach the Europa League for only the second time.
Preparations for a busy season brought further additions, with defensive duo Dayaan Methalie and Thomas Meunier joining, along with Royal Antwerp midfielder Jules Ahoka.
In the final days, Sunderland targeted a defender and a winger and got there, agreeing a loan for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kevin Danso and securing Lyon winger Malick Fofana despite late interest from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace.
Ecuadorian striker Juan Riquelme Angulo Caicedo also arrived from Independiente del Valle. At the top end of Premier League squad values, Arsenal are at €1.21bn, Manchester City £1.14bn and Chelsea £1.06bn, while Sunderland sit between Everton at £398.4m and Leeds United at £339.70m.
