Valencia CF have agreed terms with Arnau Martínez, but a deal with Girona FC has not yet been reached. The right-back remains in Girona’s plans as the Segunda División season gets under way.
According to Superdeporte, the clubs are close to an agreement but have not found a meeting point for the move to Mestalla. Quique Álvarez’s side opened on Sunday against Leganés, with Martínez selected at right-back in the first official XI under the new coach.
The negotiation remains open, and the player has settled his future contract with Valencia. There is confidence the operation can be completed soon, although the Blanquinegros know they must make a strong financial push.
Martínez wants to leave and will do so, because his level is not that of Segunda División and his salary was drastically reduced after relegation. Even so, he recognises Girona have given him everything in professional football and will play in the second tier until a transfer is agreed with another club.
Valencia had aimed to complete the signing this weekend to avoid his involvement in the opening round and to bring him into Carlos Corberán’s training this week. However, he remains a Girona player for now.
