The clash against Real Oviedo proved to be anything but straightforward for FC Barcelona. Not only were the Catalans forced into a difficult comeback, but the match also left them counting fresh casualties on the injury front.

While Raphinha’s physical problems were already a cause for concern, another setback has now emerged with Spanish goalkeeper Joan Garcia. The extent of his issue has since been confirmed by the club.

According to Barcelona’s official medical statement, Garcia has suffered a tear of the internal meniscus in his left knee. He will undergo arthroscopic surgery performed by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, after which his recovery time is expected to range between four and six weeks.

This timeline rules Garcia out of the upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain and makes it highly doubtful that he will recover in time for the first El Clásico of the season against Real Madrid in October.

The injury comes as a major setback for Hansi Flick’s side, who are already without Gavi and Fermin Lopez. However, there is some positive news for Barcelona, with both Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde recovering in time to return to action.
