Barcelona president Joan Laporta arrived at Spotify Camp Nou with a sense of enthusiasm that could be felt across the renovated stadium.

The team’s return to their historic home has lifted the spirits of the club and the fans, and ahead of the clash with Athletic Club, Laporta shared his thoughts in an interview with Catalunya Radio

While much of the anticipation centred around the match, he also addressed a more delicate issue, which is the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) opening a case against La Liga president Javier Tebas.

What is Laporta’s opinion on that matter?

Before diving into the details, Laporta made it clear that the timing of this case does little to help anyone.

With relations between Barcelona and La Liga slowly stabilising after years of tension, he expressed concern about the impact this situation could have.

“I believe that at this moment, the possible disqualification of Javier Tebas is not good news. Our problems have been resolved, and the relations are getting better and better.”

Laporta went on to clarify that the issue being investigated did not originate from the club itself, and he hinted at outside forces pushing for the case to move forward.

Providing further context, he emphasised that both Barça and La Liga had previously addressed the matter directly and reached an understanding.

“This was instigated by a group, I don’t know who. We spoke with the president of La Liga at the time and this matter was resolved.

I don’t think it’s good news right now. I don’t know where these attempts to oust the president of La Liga are coming from. I don’t quite trust them.”

Notably, the TAD’s decision to open a case comes from alleged serious violations involving the handling of confidential information during the sale of VIP boxes at the new Spotify Camp Nou, as well as Tebas’ reported meeting with Athletic Club connected to Nico Williams’ release clause.
