Bayern Munich’s 18 match unbeaten run to start the 2025/26 campaign came to an end on Wednesday night when Germany’s record champions suffered a 3-1 defeat in the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Arsenal.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against St. Pauli, Vincent Kompany wants to see a reaction but expects an equally difficult game.
“We never want to lose, we don’t accept it and we don’t like it,” Kompany said in Friday’s press conference. “But it’s about the reaction at this stage of the season, about the game against Arsenal and now against St. Pauli.
“It’s all a process to prepare ourselves so we’re there in the big moments later in the season.”
Speaking on the threat that St. Pauli pose, despite occupying the relegation playoff, Kompany added: “It was tough for us against them twice recently. We’re keeping that in mind – we know it won’t be difficult, even though they’ve lost eight games.
“The Bayern game might be different for them too. A game like that puts less pressure on you when you’re at the bottom of the table, which could be a positive for St. Pauli.”
