Corinthians have confirmed João Pedro Tchoca’s six-month loan to Torino after the 1-0 win over Velo Clube on Sunday, with head coach Dorival Júnior calling it a career step and accepting they will look for a replacement.
The move had hinged on Dorival’s approval. Corinthians will receive 1.5 million euros for the loan, with an obligation to buy for 4.5 million euros if the defender features in at least 10 matches of 45 minutes.
Should the transfer become permanent mid-year, the agreement includes up to 1 million euros in achievable bonuses and a 12% sell-on clause.
Dorival said Tchoca rose from fifth-choice and took his chance from the academy, adding that he hopes the player thrives in Italy. He also noted that 16-year-old Iago Machado is highly promising but not yet ready, so the club do not intend to rush him.
Corinthians face Bahia at Vila Belmiro on Wednesday in their Campeonato Brasileiro opener, kick-off 20:00.
