Andy King says Leicester players cannot dwell on a points deduction, arguing performances, not the punishment, have left them near the bottom three. According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, he believes their recent form means frustration is not warranted.
Deemed in breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules, City have had six points removed and now sit outside the relegation zone on goal difference. King spoke after a 2-1 defeat at Birmingham.
He said the squad discussed the decision, which clarified exactly where they stand. With 15 games remaining, the aim is simply to ensure they are above the line at the end of the season.
King cautioned against any arrogance about being on a good run, stressing standards over a longer spell have not been good enough and must improve.
Across 31 games, he said, they have not reached the required level. If they had and a deduction had dragged them from second to seventh, frustration would be understandable. Instead, he argued, they must take accountability and accept their position reflects form, not sanction.
City consider the sanction disproportionate and are weighing an appeal, with a decision due by the end of next week. King said he has not been told the club’s thinking and is focused on leading the team until a new manager is found.
