Arnau Martínez is on the verge of joining Valencia, with the move not yet official. According to Superdeporte, the 23-year-old, formerly Girona’s captain, arrived in the city in the early hours on Wednesday and visited Paterna later that morning.

He has logged 180 minutes this season, the same as Stole, Jesús Vázquez, Tárrega and Javi Guerra. He will compete with Pablo Maffeo at right-back and can also play on the right of a back three under Corberán this season. He is considered ready to contribute now, with scope to improve.

His current market valuation is 10 million euros, having peaked at 15 million euros during his LaLiga breakthrough. Valencia are set to pay less than that, even below the 8 million euros in his release clause.

The latest proposal was around five million euros guaranteed plus a further one million in add-ons to Girona. Girona will also keep 10% of any future sale.

Martínez is due to sign a long-term deal until 2031, on a salary that increases over time. It will start at around two and a half million euros and rise to three million in his fifth season.
