According to Globo.com, Argentine forward Facundo Colidio has arrived in Rio de Janeiro to sign for Vasco, tasked with ending the club’s struggles with the number nine shirt.
His brief is to halt a frustrating sequence for Pedro Raul, Sebastián Ferreira and Matheus França, who all wore nine but never fully convinced.
Vasco have found it hard to establish a long-term spearhead, with Argentine striker Vegetti the recent success story, though he played in 99 rather than nine.
Pedro Raul joined in 2023 as the marquee attacking signing at the start of the SAF project after a strong Série A with Goiás. He made 25 appearances and scored nine before a sale to Toluca after a little over seven months, and he is now at Corinthians.
Paraguayan Sebastián Ferreira arrived in the second half of 2023 on the recommendation of Ramón Díaz, took nine, played 13 games, did not score, and left when his five-month loan expired.
Matheus França joined on loan from Crystal Palace in 2025, wore nine despite not being a natural striker, played 27 times and scored one, then departed at the end of June.
Vasco now look to Colidio’s versatility. A Boca Juniors academy product signed young by Inter Milan, the 26-year-old can lead the line or work from wide and has also featured for Sint-Truiden, Tigre and River Plate.
