Corinthians use Pokémon, fashion and purpose to announce Memphis Depay renewal | OneFootball

Corinthians have extended Memphis Depay’s contract until 31 July 2028, revealing the deal through a social media campaign built around his interests.

According to Meu Timao, the agreement followed a protracted negotiation that even saw the club say at one point it would not renew. The rollout began around 15:20 with a post on his notion of purpose, a theme he has used since arriving in September 2024 after leaving European football.

Minutes later came a Pokémon tease featuring Solgaleo and a lion emoji, a nod to his tattoo. Recent clips of him buying cards, including a box said to be worth around R$ 200,000, and promising an item to Neymar, fed the motif.

Fashion then featured under the caption Detalhes, with jeans and a chain studded with pendants tied to his story. A 50-second video followed, titled "Chosen by Favela", charting PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid before cutting to Corinthians celebrations, including the moment he stood on the ball against Palmeiras, and recent silverware.

Another image set him before a lion silhouette, the three trophies won with Corinthians stacked over an African weave, a nod to his Ghanaian roots. The series closed by stating that his purpose continues.

Registered on the CBF’s BID and in the Libertadores, Depay is available to Fernando Diniz for Rosario Central of Argentina on Thursday at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena, the round of 16 second leg.
