Gladbach head of sports Rouven Schröder hailed Elvedi as a true club legend, praising his consistency and quiet leadership. He said losing him hurts on and off the pitch, and that the player had clearly sought one more new challenge.

Schröder said the club respected Elvedi’s wish once the financial terms were right, and that those conditions have now been met. He thanked him wholeheartedly and wished him the best for the future.

Reflecting on his exit, Elvedi said he arrived at 18, found a family at the club and experienced many special moments, but feels the time is right to try something new. He thanked supporters for their backing over 11 years. He said he would keep a close eye on Borussia and would do everything he could to return to say goodbye in person.
