UEFA’s Executive Committee has selected the Spotify Camp Nou to stage the 2029 Champions League final, the first major event at the fully rebuilt stadium. It will be the third time Barcelona has hosted Europe’s premier club showpiece.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Barça arena was preferred to Wembley, with the bid supported by the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Real Federación Española de Fútbol and the Spanish government.

The stadium is due to be completed by early 2028 at the latest, and its near 105,000 capacity proved a major draw for UEFA.

The ground previously staged the European Cup finals of 1989, when Milan beat Steaua Bucharest 4-0, and 1999, when Manchester United overturned Bayern Munich 2-1 with two stoppage-time goals.

Meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece, the Executive Committee also assigned the 2028 men’s final to Munich’s Allianz Arena, as in 2025.

It simultaneously set the Women’s Champions League finals for Lyon in 2028 and Cardiff in 2029. San Mamés, which had hoped to return as women’s final host, missed out.
