Castellón have appointed Jack Stern as first-team goalkeeping coach, adding international expertise as Romain Matthys and new arrival Amir Saipi compete for the starting place.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the 38-year-old arrives from a role on Brighton & Hove Albion’s staff, a Premier League set-up noted for its methodology and player development. He worked with top goalkeepers and alongside Graham Potter, Roberto De Zerbi and Fabian Hürzeler.

Stern previously spent significant time in MLS with FC Cincinnati and CF Montréal as a goalkeeping coach. He supported first-team keepers and contributed to the development of young goalkeepers within both clubs’ structures.

His appointment addresses an increasingly decisive area. Modern keepers are expected not only to save, but to start play, interpret opposition pressure, command the box and steady the team in key moments.

Castellón ask their goalkeepers to operate high, often outside the area, because of an advanced defensive line, and to be ready for one-on-ones. In that context, Stern brings a methodical approach shaped in the Premier League and MLS, adding valuable knowledge to the staff.
